47 miles of fun, 3 miles from hell

Katie and I decided to ride 50 miles at the Little Miami Trail in Loveland on Sunday. It was a beautiful day in the high 70s, and although we got a later start than we had hoped, we didn't really think we'd be riding in the dark. Early in the ride I had my first SPD pedal fall. A spectacular 0 MPH fall into the dirt on an intersection of road and trail. Of course I was laughing so hard Katie had to help me unclip from the pedals! Unfortunately that wasn't the only fall of the day! We ended up riding about 20 miles from dusk to dark with no headlights. This was fine for a while as the moonlight was bright enough that we could see our shadows on the road, unfortunately the trail was hard to see and Katie and I got tangled up and we both ended up on the tarmac. She got it worse than I did with a badly skinned knee, bruised/sprained wrist, and a little chin scrape. I had a skinned knee, strained/sprained wrist, and bruised palms. Other than a bruised ego today, I'm pretty much fine. I did finish my first half-century however! Thanks to Katie for being such a good sport about it! Hope you get better! ;)

Ride details: Distance: 50 miles Time: 3hrs 28mins Avg Speed 14.3MPH (we were averaging about 15 pre fall) Max: 26 MPH
